Infografik Perkahwinan Orang Melayu di Malaysia

Salam.

Projek Pembesaran Kota Mekah

Menarik bukan?

Soalnya, kenapa sangat ringkas?

Happy ending

Is it a happy ending for me this semester? I don't have any idea. Everything went very fast this time and 4 months is just like 4 weeks. There are many things that happen this semester. Lets recap. Among the major events are KAED Fest, MAKUM Pantun Fest, Convest, Campus General Election, AKHI Project programs, visit to Singapore to name a few.

Besides that, I was having a hard time in time management with the courses and my social life. Design studio with the new part-time Perodua lecturer, Sports Management with the morning class, English with the term paper, materials, rendering etc. Not to forget my new room mates, AKHI members, my special ones and many more. I really enjoy all these hardship and difficulties in life because they make my life more colourful, enjoyable yet meaningful than before.

Here's a not a picture of my studio projects. The step mover and Xpax radio. I wonder if am I gonna get good grades for 'em.

After all the tiring studio works, my friends and I went to Asia Design Network Conference at MATRADE Convention Centre. There were speakers from all over east Asia, and some of them are very good. But I've fallen asleep few times. I wish I can stay awake longer but the cosy environment is very comfortable for sleeping. Guess I'm such a sleepyhead down there. It was the first time being to MATRADE as I only can see this building from far each time I heading to KL from the PLUS highway.

P/S: All the best for the final exams. May God shower His blessings on all of us and help you guys through it. InsyaAllah.

Corporate Video Project

It was my first project for the design studio. Its a group project and again, I'm in the same group with Syafi'e (since Tampok Manggis multidip) together with Asyraf Muna, Wan Thuwaibah and Haslinda.

Apparently, I couldn't focus for that project because I have other projects, as well as committed with university programs; KAED Fest, Pantun Fest, Convest as well some AKHI Projects' programs. After I've checked my schedule, it seems that I don't have any Sunday weekend until the month of Ramadhan.

Let's get back to the topic. Actually, we are competing for my beloved faculty, Kulliyah of Architecture & Environmental Design (KAED) corporate video competition. After doing some case study from Malaysia Airlines and other corporate videos, we made our own shooting. Unfortunately my handycam was malfunction. It cannot playback nor do any recording. So, I need to borrow the camera from my friend which borrowed the equipment from the technician's office. Its quite sophisticated I guess.

For the task division, I asked the girls to prepare the print out stuff and workbook while me n Pie will do the video. I've asked Safwan for the narration but it doesn't go well. He has a good voice but he need to improve more on the pronunciation.

On the presentation day, I'm impressed with what my friends have produced. My lecturer said there will be a public screening to select the winner. I hope if I don't win, at least I've got in the top three.

Anyway, mission accomplished. Special thanks to all my group members for your good job. I'm wishing you luck on the next studio projects.

P/S - I'll upload the video to Youtube later.

Palace of Golden Horses

I've accompanied my dad for TM Business Program seminar at Mines Business Centre. Unexpectedly, the organizer, Faratech Sdn. Bhd. provided us with lunch at Carousel Restaurant in Palace of Golden Horses. Besides that, they also give us a free RM25 water taxi ride along the lake, which is the mines.

The landscape design is totally superb. I love the landscape. After the multidip project, I am more interested in knowing the softscapes names such as plumeria, cocos nucifera, syzigium, spider lily, helicornia etc.

About the Palace of the Golden Horses, the building design from exterior to interior is awesome. Horses has become the main motif and elements for the hotel. Even the restaurant named Carousel have lots of horse statue, as in a carousel of course. It was the best dining experience there since its free! I shouldn't have eaten rice. Its just that I've forgot that I prefer tasting delicacies rather than eating rice. By the way, the mutton tastes good. OK. Stop talking about food.

After that, we took a water taxi ride around the lake. The normal price is RM25 for adult and RM15 for children. I'm totally regret because I didn't bring any camera to capture those beautiful views over there. I wonder when is the next time I'm gonna spend my time like this.

SMART TUNNEL
Since I'm going to Sungai Besi, I'm very eager to try the new SMART tunnel. From Jalan Tun Razak, its a 4 kilometres underground tunnel and we ended up near Sg. Besi airport. But, on my way back, its kinda hard to get inside the tunnel because there are only one lane directing to the tunnel. So, make sure you keep yourself in the very right lane if you are heading KL. That evening, it was very rainy and I cannot see the traffic clearly. Alhamdulillah, there's no flash flood on my way home.

P/S - Its my first day of my holiday. What's come up next?

KAED Fest vs Multidip

I'm a pretty busy guy for the past few weeks. I'm quite envied with my fellow friends who manage to find themselves a temp job for this short semester despite having to go to class. I swear if I'm not taking multidip subjects, maybe I'll getting some fun working somewhere. There are only 3 things that keep me quite busy for this short semester; KAED Fest, Multidip project and AKHI Project.

KAED Fest is the annual event for KAED students society and I'm the Program Manager for this year. I'm busy conducting weekly meetings for the head commitees beside preparing paper work and waiting for approval. The whole background process is consuming lots of time. I hate it when the officer or Deputy Dean is not available. The next thing is to get sponsorship during this 4 week break. Here's the list of event for KAED Fest 07: Refresh, Revive, Rejuvenate.
  • Exhibition - of students Projects
  • Pandora's Box - Ghost House
  • Talk - from former Rector maybe
  • Stalls - food, drinks, souvenir, stuff etc.
  • KAED Stage - Cultural, bands and play performance
  • Extreme Game Demonstration - BMX flatland and Skateboards
  • Futsal Competition - open for brothers & sisters
  • Photo Competition - funny, unique, creative
  • Art & Design Competition - sand art, sculpture, graffiti
  • PES & Modelling Competition - 3Ds Max modelling
  • Appreciation Night - dinner and performance

Please take note that KAED Fest 07 took place from 18 to 22 July 2007. Please come and have fun. I just choose that date because Economics students are having their events one week later at the same proposed site. So, let's see which events better!

Next thing is about the multidip project. I've blog about it before and I'm terribly busy in preparing for the 1st and 2nd crit session. All of my group members stay all night and sleep in the morning for this beautification of IIUM riverbank project. By the way, its one more week left before the final presentation which was scheduled on this 8th June.

I wondered how am I gonna compose and do the best 3D project presentation combining all stuff that I've known so far; Sketchup 6, 3D Studio Max 8, After Effects 7 and the best video editor software ever, Ulead VideoStudio 10!! I wonder how long it will take to render the whole 3D animations. If only my group members have a machine with Core2Duo processor..

Baktisiswa Kg. Pasir

I've joined Program Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa IPT at Kg. Pasir, Kuala Kubu Bharu from 3-6 May 2007. Actually, its just the same as in Kg. Lambor Kanan, Perak last year and this time, its kinda different.

Last time, me and Huzaifah lived with the old parents but this time, me, Ikhwan and Bakhtiar stayed with the whole family including 3 of their children. Our house is the farthest house among the participants. We also need to drive a car because 3 of us won't fit in a motorcycle.

I also have made a few international friends because there are Sevgi and Gulcan from Turkey, Saeed and Yoseof from Yaman as well as Adnan (India) and Miranti (Indonesia). I've learn some Turkey phrase and speaks Indonesian with Miranti n Yoesof.

This time, I have to design and construct the landmark for the village. As usual, its a simple signage but its easier to be constructed if I do it in KAED workshop with the machines. I don't know how long it will last but I think its nice eventhough its kinda odd to see such thing there.

4 days is better than 3 days because we have more time with the family. I slept in the living room and watched ASTRO with the family. Celcom coverage is very poor in Taman Lembah Damai. They treated me as their own family, that's why I love this family very much. I hope I can come again to this place some day.

Multi-dip

I've just started my short semester this Monday 23rd with only one subject, which is Integrated/Multi-Disciplinary Project 1 which is also known as 'Multi-Dip' among students. Its all about getting students from various departments such as architecture, landscape, quantity surveying and arts & design to work in a group and compete for the best design.

There are 16 groups which consist from 15 to 16 students. The first 8 group will design a project which is so-called 'Convocation Square' in front of the CAC building. Currently, students doesn't have good icon or sculpture or something that can reflect UIA after the convocation ceremony. Even in UiTM Shah Alam, the place is very crowded and there's no such interesting point of view in capturing the moment.

The rest 8 group will have a so-called 'Jogging Park' along the riverbank in UIA. It would be more landscape work in this project. The budget for each project should not exceed RM100K, that's a tough work for the QS students. I'm in group 12 and we haven't decide our group name yet. With the capacity of 5 handsome guys with 11 brilliant girls, I hope we can get along with each other and enjoy ourselves with this project which last for 8 weeks. Besides that, our group leader is Amirah from Architecture. I wonder if other group also selected a girl to become their leader.

I'm glad to be in the group with the people I have fun working with. Izzati, Syafii, Idwan and Akmalulhaya. I wonder how my life will be since I'm staying off campus for this short semester. Nevertheless, comparing to the last year, each group will work in a classroom, not in studio as the last time. So, the space is quite smaller and there might be less decoration in the class.

I hope I'm doing the best I can in my group work and I wonder what's the result might be. The important is the journey, not the result. I've forgot who's saying this quote.

Bus

I went to Pangkor Island with my dad from Tuesday till Wednesday. We took bus from Kuala Lumpur to Lumut and also a ferry to cross the sea. So, I'm not gonna blog about my vacation in Pangkor instead I wanna talk about bus.

I'm not very used to travel with bus especially from Puduraya to somewhere else. Its just my observation that today's bus is not as 20 years ago. During my primary schools, I've started taking 'Bas Sri Jaya' and pink mini bus. After that, there's Intrakota, Metrobus and Cityliner generation. Now its RapidKL and surviving Metrobus public buses.

Besides that, express buses also have their revolution. From standard 2+2 seating arrangements and now there's 2+1 seating which promises more comfortableness to the passengers. Besides that, the Plusliner bus have 2+2 seating in the front and 1+1+1 at the rear part of the bus. This is new to me because I'm not used with buses right?

Besides that, design is very much needed in the transportation design. I'm totally awed with the side mirror of buses which looks like an insects' antennae. Last semester my third year senior designed a bus that can serve the function as an open stage. That's pretty cool eh. Where else? I guess its the graphic on the side of the bus.

My lecturer claimed that he designed the graphic for UIAM buses. For me its OK. Instead I prefer the graphic design on UiTM buses. I hate the shuttle bus service in UIA because boys won't feel like using it. If only the Transport Unit buy a couple of Mercedes Benz buses just like the RapidKL, I bet I'm no longer walk to my kulliyah anymore.

Walking is fun. I can think lots and lots of think, about my design, my problems and sometimes its fun when accidentally you can meet with your friends or girlfriends. Besides, you can get to know what happen to the university if there's a program, exhibition, stalls etc. I've regretted when I ride with my friends' car or motorcycle, I will miss any happenings in the university, just because we ride on the outer road.

That's all about bus then. I wonder when I'm gonna hop on the KL HOP ON HOP OFF (picture above) bus.

Adobe CS3 Creative License

I've just heard about Adobe CS3 from Metro newspaper and I've check the details on the website. Maybe I was too busy with my campus life before to know about this. Well, I've been anticipating for the new features.
There are many new features but I'm gonna focus on what I think best.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3 EXTENDED
3D Compositing and Texture Editing - Its good when you can actually create 3D look by only using PS rather than 3D software.
Quick Selection and Refine Edge Tools - easy to crop object than background
Smart Filters - I wonder what are the new filters?
Advanced compositing
Movie Paint - but how many frames it gonna takes?
2D and 3D measurement tools - as if putting ruler on the image
Streamlined interface and palette management - cooler interface
Better raw-image processing - I don't have SLR to explore this
Enhanced Vanishing Point with 3D support - never use this before
Enhanced 32-bit high dynamic range (HDR) support

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR CS3
Live Color - no more need to study about colours and harmony
Integration with Adobe Flash - no more need to convert SWF etc.
Drawing tools and controls - I love using Pen tool! Now with better control
Improved operating performance
Control panel
Eraser tool - they have brush tool before
New Document Profiles
Crop Area tool - I used to apply mask or sometimes crop with PS
Isolation mode - don't disturb other drawing
Symbols for Flash

ADOBE FLASH CS3 PROFESSIONAL
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator import - easy to import n export
Convert animation to ActionScript - totally new features for me
Adobe interface - no more Macromedia look ey?
ActionScript 3.0 development - I hate scripts
Advanced debugger - I hate debug error
Adobe Device Central - for hi-tech phones only. I use Nokia2100
Rich drawing capabilities - Its easier making curves from straight line before
User interface components
Advanced QuickTime export - convert to MOV
Sophisticated video tools - convert to FLV
Timesaving coding tools - code editor

All in all, newer is not always better. But I bet this is much more integrated with one another. Its good that we can upgrade from existing version. However, they are just timesaving tools. Even with older version you can have good design. Am I gonna purchase the original version or just get the pirated CDs or image? No more pirate CDs in Low Yat Plaza right?

Need to upgrade my hardware before unleashing with these products. Currently my machine is not in a very good shape.

Floating Structure

Its my first studio project entitled 'Integrated Project: Floating Structure'. So what its all about? Floating is all about making something float either in the air or on the surface of a water. Structure? i think its combination of materials that can support weight.

OK, enough of the vocabularies. Its not the accurate definition, so you have to look for them in wikipedia for precise intepretations. Among the design criteria for this project is that; it floats (without any air trapped inside); support more than 70 kilogrammes; stable; portability; and it has aesthetic value.

I was in the same group with Khairul Izhar, Aslam, Thuwaibah, Haslinda and Siti Sarah. In the early of the project, I'm totally not in the right mood for designing. I think that, since its a group work, why don't let my friend do the design and I'm just help in construction and presentation board.. I'm good working with computers and that's why I'm thinking bout it..

About our design? Its very simple. Derived from a tortoise hexagonal shell - we call our prototype as 'HAX' with the tagline of 'Simple, Practical, Lightweight'. Only 3 materials involved which are dustbins, bamboos and manila rope.

Here's just a simple report. We started working on constructing the HAX from Sunday 17th Dec to Friday 22nd Dec. We've tested on Tuesday and it seems that it can support my weight. Up to Thursday, the bamboo has shrunk and the knot (ibo knot) was loosen. And finally, the day of judgement where we put on our prototype at a river near Convest hill to test it to the extreme. Good thing, our design support more than 100kgs without any hassle. We also come up with the presentation bunting instead of using boards for the presentation day.

Its hard to describe about the design now, I will upload the pictures later. Please come back again later!

Blogger Beta

Blogger Beta.. I wonder what's the different from the classic Blogger.
And here you can see that's I have totally a different layout. I guess this is just a temporary layout. Its too simple but I don't have much time to design my new layout.

So, here's what I've observe from the new Blogger Beta. First of all, it has TAGS or LABELS. This is the important thing in blog because it can get your blog on the search engine. Today's search engine are looking for tags.. so, if anyone is searching for 'design' and if you have' design' tag on your blog, your blog will get the priority and ranking in term of search result. Classic Blogger don't have this features. I'm gonna put the tags in every post from now on. Yeah, its the other way to increase traffic, I guess so..

Next, the template customization. I've just changed into this existing template from the Blogger. This time, they can be customize easily and more friendly than before. If you've seen how the Friendster's Typepad blog layout customization, its just the same. Put it here, put it there, change the colour of the text here and there. Unfortunately, there's some problem here. They are using Widgets. If I'm about to customize and edit the HTML on my own, its totally different.

Its not gonna be that hard if I spend more time studying on the coding but the important thing is I need to understand the XML, am I? The new blogger also doesn't allow me to put the 'Read More' links so that my first page can become a bit shorter. I've checked out Blogger's Help and it doesn't help at all.

Guess that's all the review about the new Blogger. I love the new environment and the tags!

Cyberlinq Competition

Screenshot of the CENSERVE Team Website

As I mentioned earlier in the Convest '06 post, I am the webmaster and representing UIA for Maxis Cyberlinq Website Competition. For the whole one week, I was very busy preparing the CENSERVE Team website for this competition. Please check out this website and give your comment here. Oopps, sorry, I forgot to put the tagbox or guest book there! http://maxis.communities.com.my/sites/cycenserve/

What's its all about?
Maxis wanted the participant to propose program or event and submit it on the first phase. After the proposal has been reviewed by Maxis, they will select the qualifying team and give RM1000 to execute the proposed program.

How can you become one of the webmasters?
Its all started when I've joined AKHI Project. I started to show off my multimedia skills during the 'Workshop' program. From there, I was selected to become the Multimedia Committee for Humanitarian Week. Then, the program manager, Bro. Roslan selected me to become one of the webmaster. Roslan is the head of Censerve Team and also the head of the website team.

What are the proposed program or events?
Since Censerve Team was familiar with community service projects to school childrens, teenagers and aborigines, in this website, we have proposed the 'Mentoring Programme' and 'English Theater Camp'. RM1000 is not enough for both events, and its okay because we also got our financial support from S-DEV UIA.

How about the prizes?
The first prize is RM 5000 and I hope this website can win. So, let's pray...
By the way, 2nd prize is RM3000 and 3rd prize is RM1000.

What are the challenges to build this website?
Since I'm good in designing website, the graphical part is not a big thing but the main thing they want to see is the content. So, I have explored the web 2.0 style for this purpose. The difficult part is to compose all the information, from from converting the existing hardcopies and working back and forth from house to UIA. I need to design it with a fast PC with broadband connection, and that's why I have to return home. If only Wifi service is excellent in UIA..

How about your team members?
Besides that, some of my team members are having their final examination in the last two weeks before submission. I'm having serious trouble to see with them to get this work done. But, I'm grateful and personally I wanted to thank Bro. Danial and Bro. Zainuddin, for letting us using their PC in the office; Sis. Rafizaliana, Sis. Hafizan, Bro. Aswady and Bro. Lukman for preparing the last minute works for me. Bro. Ismail, thanks for brainwashing me.

What's wrong with you?
Seriously, I'm NOT SERIOUS. I just happen to do it my way. I'm gonna get the work done the best I could, and without any pressure. That's why I used to laugh and play around while I was with them. But, when I'm working on it, I'm SERIOUS. Trust me. I even neglected my friends who are also online in YM. Yeah.. I'm gonna thanks to Miss Ashikin for accompanying my sleepless night after I'm tired with the website.

Nail Mosaic

Artist hammers out world's largest nail mosaic

I read about this artwork in KOSMO! tabloid and first thing I was thinking is that.. this is AWESOME! and this Albanian guy is patience enough to nail all these nails.

Artist hammers out world’s largest nail mosaic
By Benet Koleka
TIRANA (Reuters) -Albanian artist Saimir Strati has hammered tens of thousands of nails into a wooden board over the past 24 days to create a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci and the world’s biggest nail mosaic.

“I can officially confirm that we have a new record for the largest nail mosaic of eight square metres,” Guinness World Records adjudicator Scott Christie said late on Monday.

The mosaic stood in the main hall of Tirana’s pyramid-shaped culture center, exactly where a larger-than-life sculpture of the late Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha used to stand.

Large-headed nails shone in the light falling on the sides of Da Vinci’s flowing grey beard. Smaller black tapestry nails created shadow below his eyes and chin. Three rows of yellow nails framed the portrait.

“I have lost count of the nails, but I think it was around 400 kilos (880 pounds) of nails. I have used different nails. The condition was they should be industrial nails and they are,” Strati said.

Thanks Imageshack“My technique resembles (digital) camera pixels. I have used a nail for each pixel,” he told Reuters.

A video record of the feat showed him nailing away for up to 12 hours a day.

“This is something quite unique and quite spectacular,” Christie told Reuters, adding the mosaic is “a completely new category” for Guinness.

“We did not know quite what to expect before we came, but we are amazed and truly astounded at the fantastic work he has done, days and nights and hour upon hour,” he added.

“Someone will have to try to beat that, but I do not think it will be beaten for some time.”

I wish that one day his artwork will be exhibited in Malaysia because I would like to appreciate it and have a look at it closely. He said he applied the pixel with different sizes of nails.. yeah.. its the same as stippling technique using different points of felt tip pen.

AAD Studio 3

AAD Studio 3.. my third studio in KAED and I'm glad I've done a pretty good job in my design subject. I've been very busy working with 2 of the design project which are the umbrella design and the street lighting design, for the past 4 weeks.

However, since I'm giving full attention to my work, I've neglected the Ramadhan as the worshipping month. Huhuh.. I do go for some tarawih prayers, but not that much as in my previous years. I hope, next Ramadhan, if I still here, I want to improve both in my studio and my ibadah.

I just finished my portfolio day too on last Wednesday and Thursday. For the internal portfolio (review), me and my studiomates went for iftar (berbuka puasa) at Kg. Batu, near Jalan Ipoh. I dunno where is it technically. After that, all the boys go and play futsal in Segambut indoor stadium.

During external portfolio, our assessor has condemned greatly on our works, such as sketches, perspectives drawing and utilizing the materials. Its a good input from them but I swear in myself, to perform better in the next studio 4!

Booth Design

Yeah.. in my minor project 2, I need to design a booth. But, first of all, do you know what is the different among kiosk, booth and stall? In the early classes, I totally have a doubt about these different. But, today, I know the major differnt about it.

So, after presenting for my literature study, I had to design and from 6 options; keysmith, handphone, engravers, printing, cobbler and and watch repair, I chose the keysmith@locksmith for my booth.

Well, I dunno how the final design will be. Just from time to time, go and check my fotopage.

Packaging Design

In my core course, I had to learn Environmental Design II. In my first minor project, my assignment is about Packaging Design.

Packaging Design is under Industrial Design where designers will design the package. So, I choose a product and seems I like to drive lately, I want to do something related to cars. Since, real cars will not be fitted into a box, I only can think to do a box for a toy car.

My friends choose Gundam Toy, watch and Quran for their products. While girls seems to like girlie stuff like perfume, chocolate and short candles.

It took me one week to design and to build the car toy box. On the submission day, I submitted and my friend told me that my presentation is doing well.

So, if you wanna see how I built the box, and also some of my friends design, come on check my photo album..
